Ortiz (David) is born in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic.

The son of Enrique and Angela (Aris) Ortis, David Ortiz initially signs with the Minnesota Twins, and marries Tiffany Brick in 2002. After joining the Boston Red Sox in 2003, he goes on to become one of best clutch hitters in baseball history, one of the beloved sports figures in Boston, and known for notably lifting the spirits of the city in 2013.* Boston Globe sportswriter Peter Abraham subsequently writes, “Ortiz may not be the best player in Red Sox history but he is surely the most impactful.” A street near Fenway Park is renamed in his honor in 2017.
